One thing that I’ve learned over time is that it’s important to take a minute and celebrate a win before you move on to the next item on your to-do list.
I was reminded of this point recently when reading an article on NASCAR’s Hendricks Racing Team. For those who may not know, this is a four team operation with over 400 employees. They have a regularly scheduled meeting each Tuesday with all involved present.
When one of the teams has been victorious the previous week, all staff members are all invited to “ring the victory bell”. Yes, all 400 of them! It is their way of saying we did well together this past week. Winning is fun! Let’s do it again this week.
One of the values of any good organization is that it is never done trying to be better tomorrow than it was yesterday. That’s commendable. Just don’t forget to take a few minutes occasionally and let everyone who worked hard on a successful project know that they are important and that their efforts are valued. No matter who you are, or what your tenure is, recognition is important.
When was the last time that your organization rang the “victory bell”?
